Homewood Telecommunications Policies New Telephone Set Policy To better serve the telecommunications requirements of the University, IT @ JH Telecommunications has implemented the following changes in telephone instrument ownership effective July 1, 2001 - All telephone sets and peripheral equipment (i.e. headsets, speakerphones) are the property of the departments. Recurring monthly charges for the telephone sets and associated equipment no longer appear as an element of the telephone bill.
- The monthly Telecommunications bill includes charges for telephone lines, premium services such as voice mailboxes, and usage sensitive services such as local and long distance calls.
- Telecommunications provides maintenance support for current Avaya telephone models in the 2500, 8400, and 6400 series that are compatible with the University telephone systems.
Note: These are all proprietary telephones and must be procured through Telecommunications. Departments may not buy telephones from any outside sources.
- Older series telephones (i.e. 7400 series) are grandfathered and will be replaced with comparable newer models (see item #3 above) when the customer requests a service upgrade (i.e. display station, additional feature buttons, etc.).
Telecommunications can no longer get parts for the 7400 series telephones. Consequently if the customer has a 7400 series telephone repair that requires part replacement, Telecommunications will replace the 7400 series telephone with comparable newer models (see item #3 above).
The department will pay a one-time charge (purchase price) for telephones upgraded or replaced.
Telecommunications procures telephone sets at the most competitive and discounted price available at that time.
- Newly installed telephones requiring maintenance during the first year of service are covered under the manufacturer's warranty. Telecommunications will maintain an inventory of telephones and provide a "loaner" telephone should Telecommunications need to sent the customer's set to an authorized Avaya repair facility. All efforts will be made to provide a "loaner" on a basis from a physical telephone and functional like-for-like basis.
