The mission of the Johns Hopkins IT Recycling program is to provide secure certified data destruction and ecologically sensible computer equipment disposal for the Homewood Campus. Refurbished computer equipment may also be made available for re-use within University departments that have a need for low-cost computing resources.
For computer equipment pick-up on the Homewood Campus, please click here to initiate the recycling process.
Once the Facilities Recycling staff have confirmed your pick-up request, any computing equipment containing a hard drive (typically only the CPU) will be securely transferred to our IT Recycling center. Serial numbers are then recorded and the hard drive data is permanently removed by either a secure wipe process, degaussing or physical destruction. Our data destruction vendor then provides a Certificate of Destruction for each device. Once the data is securely removed, the computer is either designated for refurbishment/resale or is transferred to our hardware recycling vendor for proper disposal.
