The Hardware Address will be in the form of (xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx)[hex] and can usually be found on a sticker on the card itself. If the card has already been installed, you can run the following:
If Windows 95- Click Start/Run, type WINIPCFG and click OK (make sure ethernet adapter is selected)
If Windows 3.1- use install disk or check upon bootup
If Windows NT- Click Start/Program/Command Prompt and type IPCONFIG/ALL, it will be listed as the Physical Address
If Unix/Solaris (2.4 or above) type DMESG and for SGI/Irix type NVRAM or indicated serial number (S/N=Hardware Addr.)
If Macintosh OS 8.1- click control panel, click TCP/IP, click INFO (Mac must be connected to active jack)
A managed machine is one in which security logs are regulary reviewed, log-on accounts are controlled and verified and operating system patches are kept up-to-date.
