GettingStarted
Logging In
Once a user has accepted the Terms and Conditions, users can login using their JHED ID and password, and clicking the 'Go'
Once logged in, users are immediately shown a listing of their home directory
The left frame of the directory presents links for the user to update Contacts, Preferences, and to set up Bookmarks.
The right frame lists all the fille and directory entries for the current directory.
Getting Around
Left Frame-The Left Frame contains links for performing general account functions:
My Bookmarks
My Searches
Utilities
Preferences-Allows users to change their preferences.
Contacts and Groups-Allows users to create personal user and group contacts.
Subscriptions
Empty Trash-Allows users to empty their trashcan.
Help-Launches the JShare help pages.
Log Out-Logs users out of JShare, ending their user session.
Menu Bar-The Right Frame provides a menu bar to perform the following tasks:
Up-Navigates the user to the parent directory and displays its contents.
Refresh-Refreshes the Directory Listing
Go To- Navigates the user to a specified directory. The user will be prompted for a directory.
Web Folder-Launches a Windows Web Folder. This feature is enabled only on Internet Explorer 5 and above browsers running on Windows.
Upload-Allows users to upload files to the current working directory. Multiple files can be uploaded at one time.
New Directory-Allows users to create new directories.
Move-Moves a selected file to a different directory. The user will be prompted for a directory to which to copy the file.
Copy-Allows users to copy files or folders.
Delete-Allows users to delete files of folders.
Download-Downloads a selected file.
Email-Allows users to email a link to a file or folder in their directory
Change Preferences
Clicking the ‘Preferences’ link in the left frame brings up a page displaying the current user’s preferences.
The Preferences page allows users to:
Change personal information and date/time and language preferences.
View the storage quota set on their home directory.
Change their login password.
Users may change their personal information and preferences by modifying the appropriate field values and clicking the ‘Apply Now’ button.
Delete Files and Folders
Clicking the icon, under the Delete heading, results in:
The file or directory being moved to the ‘trash’ folder.
The file or directory remains in the ‘trash’ folder until the user has clicked on the ‘Empty Trash’ link.
Empty Trash
The ‘Empty Trash’ link allows users to permanently delete the contents of their ‘trash’ directory.
Click ‘Yes’ to confirm the deletion, or ‘No’ to cancel.
Getting Help
Clicking the ‘Help’ link in the left frame launches the JShare help pages.
JShare help pages provide detailed information on navigating through JShare and using its various features.
Clicking the ‘Log out’ link in the menu bar logs the user out of the application.
The user must log in again in order to use the JShare Help.
Create Bookmarks
Bookmarks are used to quickly navigate to often used directories.
To create a bookmark:
Click the ‘Add bookmark…’ link.
Enter the directory path to bookmark or click the ‘Browse Folders’ button.
If using ‘Browse Folders’, navigate to the directory to bookmark. Existing bookmarks may also be used in navigating. Click ‘Ok’.
Click ‘Ok’.
Note: if the specified directory does not exist, or the user does not have permission to read it, an error message is displayed.
Bookmarked directories are displayed in the left frame, under ‘My Bookmarks’.
Clicking on a bookmark will navigate the user to that directory. Bookmarks are deleted by clicking on the icon.
Searching the Directory
To search for a file within your home directory or anywhere on the system:
Click on the ‘Search for files…’ link.
Fill out the search fields in the right frame (click the ‘Save this search as’ checkbox to save this search).
Click the ‘Find’ button.

To rerun a search click on the search’s link.
To edit a search, click on the icon next to the search link.
Browse Folders
When performing actions associated with specifying a directory, the user will be presented with a ‘Browse Folders’ button.
Clicking the ‘Browse Folders’ button launches a separate window that is used to navigate to a directory.
The directory tree can be traversed by clicking on sub-directories of the current directory, as well as by clicking on previously defined bookmarks.
Uploading Files and Folders
To upload a file to the current directory:
Click the ‘Upload’ icon.
Choose the number of files to upload in the drop-down list.
For each file, click the ‘Browse…’ button to browse the local file system.
Select the desired file and click the ‘Open’ button
