Johns Hopkins Enterprise Directory (JHED)

The Johns Hopkins Enterprise Directory (JHED) is a central repository for identity information for faculty, staff, and students within the Johns Hopkins Institutions.  Identity information includes but is not limited to your First Name, Last Name, Title, Phone and Work Address.  The directory is populated nightly from the various Systems of Record (SOR) across the institution.  Examples of a few SOR's include; HopkinsOne and the Student Systems. 

JHED ID (LID)

The identity information collected from the SOR's are used to automatically create a JHED Logon ID (LID).  The format used to create a LID is as follows: the first character in the first name, up to the last six characters in the last name followed by a number.  The JHED ID's take the format of jdoe112. 

  • First Name : John
  • Last Name: Doe
  • JHED ID = Jdoe112

Authentication and Authorization

The JHED directory is used by many applications to provide authentication and authorization services.  JHED integrated applications are evident when using the Enterprise Authentication services such as SiteMinder or Shibboleth.

  • Authentication:  JHED LID and password are used to access different resources.
  • Authorization:  The information about you contained within JHED is used to determine your level of access to resources.
JHED passwords follow the Institutional Password Policy
  • minimum 8 characters
  • 2 non-alpha characters
  • no password reuse for 4 password cycles
  • maximum password age of 180 days

  • White Pages Lookup - Online Searchable Directory (http://jhed.johnshopkins.edu)
  • Data which is used in the Printed Directory Faculty and Staff Listings
