| - Never open email unless you are sure who it’s from.
- Financial institutions NEVER send you an email telling you to click on a link and update your information. If you get an email like this simply delete it. If you are unsure and it is from a financial institution you deal with call them.
- If you weren't expecting to receive an attachment then it should be immediately suspect. Even if it is from a friend.
- If you receive an attachment that you can't identify, or it is from someone you don't know then just DELETE it without opening it.
- If you receive an attachment that appears to be a program from someone you trust then by all means scan it for viruses before you click on it using a reliable, up-to-date anti virus program. Just because your best friend sent it to you NEVER assume it has been scanned for viruses by them.
- Be careful where you are web surfing.
- Keep your system protected by:
a. Regularly scanning your computer with an up-to-date anti-virus program b. Regularly using a spyware/ad-ware cleaner c. Installing vendor security patches when released
