Mobile Device Migration & Support

This page is intended to provide information about the changes needed for PDA devices to continue to synchronize with the Exchange email servers after the GroupWise migration takes place.  It WILL BE necessary to re-establish connectivity with the email servers by making changes to your device.  The required changes will vary based on the device type.

Click Here To Request Microsoft Activesync Service

Activesync is Microsoft's built-in PDA over the air synchronization method for Windows Mobile Devices v5.0 or higher and specific devices that provide support for Activesync.  Please check with your device manufacturer for Activesync availability.

Many PDA devices come pre-installed with an email application that provides connectivity to email systems via POP/IMAP.  While this is not the preferred method for connectivity, POP/IMAP are available with the new Exchange email system.  Customers must complete this request form to use POP/IMAP.

Blackberry

Blackberry Devices Supported with Blackberry Enterprise Server for GroupWise.  Have you completed a Blackberry device activation for GroupWise synchronization in the past?  Then you are most likely part of the "BES" environment available for corporate phone plan members on ATT and Verizon services.

If your Blackberry already synchronizes your GroupWise email/calendar/contacts, you will receive activation instructions the day after you migrate from GroupWise to Outlook/Exchange.  If this does not happen, please call the support center at 410-955-HELP and mention that you are a current Blackberry Enterprise Service customer and have migrated from GroupWise to Outlook/Exchange.  If are NOT part if this service, and you want to enroll ($18.50 monthly fee) in the BES environment as you transition to Outlook/Exchange, click here

Blackberry Devices NOT supported with Enterprise Server

If you use a T-Mobile/Sprint Blackberry, or an ATT/Verizon Blackberry and have chosen NOT to enroll in the managed Blackberry Enterprise server environment, you have most likely established and email (only) synch with GroupWise using POP or IMAP through the Blackberry Internet Service (BIS).  The settings for this may have been entered using a wizard on the Blackberry itself, or via a web site for BIS.  This solution is not centrally supported by enterprise messaging and Sprint/T-Mobile devices are currently NOT supported in the "BES" environment.

The followling links can be used to change BIS email settings for Verizon and ATT:

Palm Treo Devices

Some Palm Treo customers currently use a service called GroupWise mobile that provides over the air synchronization with GroupWise and the Palm PDA device.  Once the migration takes place, customers will potentially have to upgrade the operating system on the phone to support Microsoft Exchange Activesync.   Customers using the GroupWise Mobile service will automatically be activated for Activesync and will receive a notification message after the migration takes place.

iPhone (3G version) Released July 2008

Microsoft Exchange Activesync is currently support by the 3G iPhone although Enterprise Messaging does not support the devices themselves.  Customers interested in using the iPhone with Exchange/Activesync should contact their PC/LAN support specialist for any device specific issues.
