Secure Eudora for Windows NOTE: These instructions are for Eudora 7.x on Microsoft Windows 98/Me/XP/2000. - Start Eudora.
- In the Tools menu, click Options
- Click the Getting Started icon. The recommended settings are:
- Real name: Your name as you want it to appear in messages you send
- Email address: Your preferred return address (ex: myalias@jhu.edu)
- Mail Server (Incoming): The mail server you use to retrieve your email
- Login Name: Your email account username
- SMTP Server (Outgoing): smtp.johnshopkins.edu
- Click the Sending Mail icon. The recommended settings are:
- Email Address: Your preferred return address (ex: myalias@jhu.edu)
- Domain to add to unqualified addresses: (i.e. jhu.edu or jhmi.edu)
- SMTP Server: smtp.johnshopkins.edu
- Allow Authentication: Check
- Immediate Send: Check
- Send on Check: Check, if desired
- Secure Sockets when Sending: Set this to "Required STARTTLS" if you are off campus and use our SMTP servers, you want to authenticate to our servers whenever you send
- PLEASE NOTE: If you set this to "Required STARTTLS", you will need to follow similar steps like Checking Mail
- After setting this, you will need to attempt to send a message and receive an error message
- Click Certificate Information Manager
- Click to highlight the certificate under Server Certificates
- Click Add to Trusted and then Done
- Click OK until back to main Eudora Window and then send your message again
- The rest of the settings can be set at your discretion
- Click OK when finished
