JHEM Client Settings

Netscape 7.X - POPS

  1. Open Netscape browser, click on the Mail icon from the toolbar
  2. Go to the Edit menu and choose Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings…
    (You may also choose Create a new account or View settings for this account from the right side of screen, depending on if this is a new account setup or on existing account setup)  

    For an existing account, and to change from non-secure connection to SSL secure connection, skip to step 10, For a new account setup, continue with step #3
  3. Click on Add Account tab and choose Email account option button, then click on Next 
  4. Type your information then continue with Next
  5. Select POP option button as the type of incoming server, and type “jhem.johnshopkins.edu”, then click OK
  6. Type your JHED LOGIN ID in User Name field, (ex. jsmith2), continue with Next
  7. Enter the account name in next screen, then click Next
  8. Click on Finish to save the settings
  9. Up to this point, you have setup your account. Now you need to configure the secure POP connection.
  10. Click on Server Settings, check the "Use secure connection (SSL)" in the middle of the screen, you will see the port number change from 110 to 995.  NOTE: Do not check the box for "Secure Authentication".
  11. If you would like to leave messages on server, then check the check box "Leave messages on server".
  12. Now click on Outgoing server (SMTP) from the left side of the screen
  13. Type “smtp.johnshopkins.edu” (depending on your campus location) in the server name field.  PLEASE NOTE: If you are off campus and want to use our SMTP servers, or you need to authenticate to send email, please choose  Always under "Use Secure Connection (TLS)."  You may also enter your JHED Login if you wish.
  14. Click OK to finish. 

 Netscape 7.X - IMAPS

  1. Open Netscape browser, click on the Mail icon from the toolbar
  2. Go to the Edit menu and choose Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings…
    (You may also choose Create a new account or View settings for this account from the right side of screen, depending on if this is a new account setup or on existing account setup)

  5. Select IMAP option button as the type of incoming server, and type “jhem.johnshopkins.edu”, then click OK
  6. Type your JHED LOGIN ID in User Name field, (ex. jsmith2), continue with Next
  7. Enter the account name in next screen, then click Next
  8. Click on Finish to save the settings
