JHEM Client Settings

Entourage for Macintosh - POPS

  1. Start Entourage and from the Entourage Menu, click Account Settings
  2. Select Mail at the top of the Account Settings window
  3. Click on New if your setting this up for the first time, or highlight your JHU account
  4. Click on the Configure account manually button at the bottom
  5. Select POP Account Type and the click OK
  6. In the Edit Account window that appears, make sure Account Settings is highlighted and enter the following information:
    • Account name: JHU Account (or whatever you want to call it)
    • Name:  Enter your name how you want it to appear in the From header of your messages
    • Email address:  Your preferred email alias (ex: lid@jhu.edu or lid@jhmi.edu)
    • Account ID: Your JHED login ID (JHED LID)
    • Pop Server:  jhem.johnshopkins.edu
    • Next, click the button Click here for advanced receiving options
      • Check the box next to This POP server requires a secure connection (SSL)
      • Make sure the port number changes to 995
      • Close the box using the small grey button at the upper left corner
    • SMTP Server:  smtp.johnshopkins.edu
    • Next, click the botton Click here for advanced sending options
      • Check the box SMTP service requires secure connection (SSL)
      •  Check the box SMTP server requires authentication, and then click on Use the same settings as receiving mail server
  7. Close the box with the small grep button in the upper left corner.
  8. In the Edit Account dialog window, click the OK button and then exit out of Entourage.  re-launch Entourage and you should be able to connect to the the JHEM server and send and receive email.

Entourage for Macintosh - IMAPS

  1. Start Entourage and from the Entourage Menu, click Account Settings
  2. Select Mail at the top of the Account Settings window
  3. Click on New if your setting this up for the first time, or highlight your JHU account
  4. Click on the Configure account manually button at the bottom
  5. Select IMAP Account Type and the click OK
  6. In the Edit Account window that appears, make sure Account Settings is highlighted and enter the following information:
    • Account name: JHU Account (or whatever you want to call it)
    • Name:  Enter your name how you want it to appear in the From header of your messages
    • Email address:  Your preferred email alias (ex: lid@jhu.edu or lid@jhmi.edu)
    • Account ID: Your JHED login ID (JHED LID)
    • Pop Server:  jhem.johnshopkins.edu
    • Next, click the button Click here for advanced receiving options
      • Check the box next to This POP server requires a secure connection (SSL)
      • Make sure the port number changes to 993
      • Close the box using the small grey button at the upper left corner

  7. Close the box with the small grep button in the upper left corner.
  8. In the Edit Account dialog window, click the OK button and then exit out of Entourage.  re-launch Entourage and you should be able to connect to the the JHEM server and send and receive email.
