GroupWise LAN Services Account Management Services Provided: create new GW accounts (must send JHED ID and cost center) create new LAN ("WIN") Active Directory accounts Update GroupWise system distribution lists GroupWise alias updates GroupWise account moves Update GroupWise demographic information (after update confirmed in JHED)
Account Management Automation: We have taken steps to automate the processes for GroupWise account creation and update. These new processes are in affect for customers supported by IT@Johns Hopkins. What does the new procedure mean for requests sent to LAN Services? We will be using JHED LDAP authentication for GroupWise access, we will no longer set the initial password for GroupWise. For the moment WIN account passwords will continue to be setup on our end. GroupWise accounts however, will require each user to authenticate to the Enterprise Directory to setup an initial password for GroupWise. Instructions on how to log in to JHED are attached. Please reference the site: https://jhed.johnshopkins.edu Changes: LAN Services Accounts will only supply a JHED Lid to be used to login to the WIN domain and a temporary password (if necessary). DSC supported users wanting to authenticate to JHED via a DCS workstation, will be required to log into the desktop using his or/her WIN ID (network ID) and password. Once the customer successfully logs into JHED, GroupWise and WIN passwords will be one-in-the-same, {Keep in mind, GroupWise and WIN passwords will be subject to the same password policies that exist in JHED minimum password length, periodic resets, etc}. Additional Changes: Account creation, deletion, demographic info updates, and GroupWise email authentication (password resets) will all take place in an automated fashion using JHED. - If a customer updates an email alias in JHED, the information will flow down to GroupWise and become the "from" address when a user sends email. - If a customer is in need of a password reset for GroupWise, this can be accomplished using JHED password reset feature: located here. - If you need a phone number or other demographic information updated, please check to make sure it is successfully updated in JHED PRIOR TO making an inquiry. - If a payroll system deletes a JHED account, the account is disabled, expired, and hidden and becomes part of a batched process that deletes them after 45 days. The internal email address for new GroupWise accounts will look different from the Novell address book. Going forward the new GroupWise internal address will be, ‘userid@GW.JohnsHopkins.edu.’ Previously, GroupWise internal addresses reflected a format of ‘userid.Postoffice.domain@jhmi.edu'. While the new format will have no impact on the actual ‘email address, it should be publicized should any questions arise on how an address appears in the GroupWise address book. (This only applies to new GroupWise accounts)Another Note: GroupWise administration changes drastically. Because of this, we are limiting the deployment of this to post offices managed by DCS/NTS as part of LAN Services support and are initially implementing this for NEW additions to the system. If you have any questions regarding the new procedure, please do not hesitate to contact us. We have plans to expand this capability in the future.
