Changing MCP Password
(Windows 2000 or Windows XP MCP notebook systems through 2005)
- When you first receive your computer, you see this Logon Message during initial Windows startup:
Your password expires today. Do you want to change it now?
- If you click the "Yes" button, you will be prompted to change the password by typing in the old password, new password, and confirmation of the new password. (Your initial factory password on the Administrator account is blank. For security reasons, it is very important that you assign a password.)
- If you click the "No" button, Windows will start normally, and you will be prompted to change the password when the system is restarted.
- Note: On Windows XP systems, if you see a blank Welcome screen on initial power up, but no prompt for a password or password change, try holding down the "Alt" key while pressing the "Tab" key once. The prompt may be hidden "behind" the Welcome screen and this keystroke will bring the prompt to the front.
